Commonly asked questions about fencing and decking
Do you need planning permission for a decking?
In some cases yes, however planning permission is not needed if the certain criteria is met.
The main ones being:
- The decking height is no more than 30cm above the ground.
- Together with other extensions and outbuilding, the decking must not cover more than 50% of the garden.
- The decking must not be built past your properties front wall.
What decking material do you recommend?
Although there being a variety of different cladding materials to choose from, the main two we get asked to fit would be pressure treated softwood and composite. Composite will have the longest lifespan and is personally more aesthetically pleasing, being available in a variety of different colours. However composite does come with a higher price tag. Timber decking will require more maintenance, however if maintained well then it should keep looking great for years to come and at the fraction of the cost of composite.
